em dash conversion?

What is the best way in Calibre 0.87 to ensure em dashes are being converted from .txt or .rar files to .epub? I'm not having much success with em dashes.

Thanks

Through trial and error, turns out the em dashes in those old .rar and .txt files are only converted when the Look and Feel Input character encoding option is forced to cp1250, 1, 2, or 3. Autodetect misses on the em dash in these cases. The hex symbol in the file is 97.

Would it help the autodetect if it tested when hexcharacter 97 is present?

Autodetecting character encodings is *hard*. What calibre does currently is about the best I am capable of making it.

Understood, and appreciated. I think these old .rar files are of 10 year old scans, and are a good way for me to play with Calibre.
