How to tell whether a paid ebook includes illustrations

How can I tell before buying whether a paid ebook includes illustrations? The book description at the bookshop's site is often not informative enough and misses this information, which is important for scientific and technical books. Here are a few tips:

download a free sample if available
check customer reviews or other reviews
check the file size (if too short -- for appropriate values of "short" -- it's unlikely to include illustrations)

I recently bought an ebook at Amazon for use with my Android Kindle reader. Although I know that the book has several illustrations, they are not included in the file I got. And besides, it is also poorly formatted.

I bought the book a bit too hastily. A couple of customer reviews did mention the missing illustrations issue. I posted a negative review myself, which was not published.

I got a refund.

Still, I wish publishers and bookshops provided full and prominent information about illustrations availability to help evaluate ebooks.
