Sigil - Adding TOC

When a TOC is added, how can I control where it appears, and how do review the epub to make sure the TOC is working as it does in the side bar?

A TOC is a separate file in ePub. The reading program determines how to find and display it. Generally it is a menu item in the reader and for portable readers it usually displays on the screen by itself. In Adobe reader it appears as a side bar. If it works in Sigil it will work in the reader generally speaking but you have no control over the font, text size, or other items associated with the display.

Which ToC do you mean?
  • The semantic ToC -- displays in sidebars, GoTo menus, etc. -- you have no control. The reader device/app is in charge of determining how and where it looks and appears.
  • The HTML ToC -- just a page in the book, you can autobuild it from the semantic ToC, it can be styled however you like just like any other part of the book. You can also reorder the HTML pages to change where it shows up while paging through the book.

Sigil has separate tools for the html (actual) and ncx (virtual) TOC. Both work, though I don't like the layout of the html TOC so I build my own. My template is here:

Though it can be simplified in Sigil.

IIRC you can modify the Sigil TOC Stylesheet in a book and it will persist. (which means, you can also just replace it with yours of the same name)
This is ONLY for the inline (HTML) one.

Great. Thanks. I'll give that (replacing the stylesheet) a try.
