Images in books not loading?

So I have a Sony Reader (PRS-600)...for some reason, a book I am reading (and I've seen it in several of them) will not show the figures threaded in the reading. The images which are supposed to help explain the material being read aren't there. They show up when I'm using a regular PDF file on my laptop, but on the reader, the pictures show (i.e. a piece of clipart or something within the book), but the images designed to explain something just don't show...only the text that would be below the images.

Anyone seen this before and/or have an answer as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Did you zoom in using the "S,M,L" settings? Doing this on a real pdf causes the first page showing the pictures (usually, at least it did on my reader) and on the following pages you have text only until you hit the next complete page.
Zooming in with zoom and pan magnifies the page like a picture. But therefore, the layout is correct.

So after playing with it more, I noticed it's only on technical books (Cisco MPLS book for example)...and if I scale back to S in the zoom settings, the pictures are there, it's just that whenever I zoom on some of PDF's I have, the text is fine but the pictures do not scale so they just disappear. I'm not sure why, but they are nowhere to be found.

That's exactly what I meant. Sorry I forgot to say that the whole page is only visible in S. All other zoom levels increase font size (with reflowing the text). Reflow cannot rearrange the layout and therefore, pictures may be on one page only without text (which I have in my case) or maybe not visible at all (I haven't had that case yet).
