Correction of auto layout

I have obviously not use the correct settings for the book conversion because the output is like this:

How should I adjust the conversion settings? I have used both 30 and 35 in the heuristics but the missing characters did not come back.

From PDF, right?

settings ain't gonna fix all this.

You have big-time ligature problems ll ffi ...

PDF is a terrible source, ligatures is just one of the things to bite you

Assuming theducks is correct - then you should Read this before Posting PDF Conversion Questions ( click)

If you're using Windows I suggest you give mobipocket creator a try - there's a link in that Read this... thread.

I think I understand what is going wrong with my epub conversion from pdf. It is the underlying text. It is very poor. It looks as if the pdf has been run through an OCR program and no corrections were done on it. I tried copying and pasting some of the text in the original pdf and although it looked ok on the graphic the text came out exactly as picked up by calibre!

There is probably an image layer which you can extract and run through OCR. There are some very good OCR programs, which are of course only worth the cost if you do this a lot -- like Abbyy FineReader.
