Toolbar changes don't stick
I just upgraded to 0.8.7 and I don't know if this was happening before. I made some changes to the toobar - added a couple plugins and swapped some other buttons in and out. Now when I restart Calibre the changes show briefly in the toolbar, and then the toolbar switches back to the defaults. I even tried rebooting, but get the same results. The changes show just long enough for me to verify that my new plugins are there, etc. before switching back. Very strange. Any ideas?

Is your device plugged in? Note that there are 2 main toolbars - one for when the device is connected, and another one for when it is not. Maybe you only changed one of them?

That was the problem, but not the least bit intuitive. Where are you told that there are 2 toolbars and that you have to do double the work to customize them? Sheesh.

2) the user manual, and 3) here. Calibre is one of the few programs that really gives power users the power they need to control program behavior. With that power comes complexity. With that complexity, comes support headaches and user headaches. Yes, Calibre could be designed so you don't have control over each toolbar, and that would reduce the headaches, but most of us would rather keep the power and live with the headaches. |

There are actually more then 2 toolbars/menu bars/context menus, See attached. The Introduction to plugins sticky talks about there being multiple toolbars/menus for you to choose in step 5 of the "How do I install a plugin using Plugin Updater?" section. It does tend to be a little confusing at times, when the confusion rears its ugly head just pop back here and ask for help. |
