You're using the same processor as the NoteAir3C.
There is this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=357326
They were having trouble with finding a loader that worked and then suddenly all of them worked.
I don't know where the confusion/randomness came along.

Try using that same factory SDM662 file.
If you have a Windows box hanging around I'd rather work with my software than the Python stuff.

If you can't get a loader to work then we're stuck waiting around until an update is released.

I was able get the boot.img file using the lenovo_motorola/001b80e102e80000_8b2d1c830d9d8576_fhprg_moto_g52.b in loader from the NoteAir3C thread.

There was one line in the console output that looked like an error, but it continued normally after that. The line was:
DeviceClass - [LIB]: USB Overflow

Also the boot.img file is an odd size - 100663296 bytes.

Are either of those oddities of any concern?

Magisk successfully patched the file, but I have not yet tried to flash it. I'd like your opinion on the file size before I flash it.

I guess that the loader works ok in this situation (maybe).
It still has the Motorola restrictions which might make it not work in other cases (or even this case).
Please get a GPT (printgpt) so I can see if the loader is a problem.

I downloaded the NoteAir3C update and extracted the boot.img from it. The size is in the same neighborhood as the boot.img I extracted, so it is probably ok. Also, I remembered I can boot the img without flashing it. I'll try that tomorrow, and let you know if it was successful.

I still have a couple of questions about the update you mentioned. What is being updated? A bootloader? edl? The NoteAir3 firmware? How do I check for and download this update once it is available?

What does "NoteAir3,NoteAir3,54F4360CD7465F72D31957D9DAF017C 7,40FE355773181D3B8D0B3E41B96D6" mean?

The SDM662 loader is the first loader I tried. It did not work. I also tried Qualcomm_662_loader.elf from 'https://www.mobileread.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=192603&d=1646588825'. It did not work either. The other loader mentioned in the 3C thread that did not work was lenovo_motorola/0000000002e80000_abbcc86fe393b13d_fhprg.bin.

The only loader mentIoned in that thread that worked was lenovo_motorola/001b80e102e80000_8b2d1c830d9d8576_fhprg_moto_g52.b in.

The Motorola restrictions say that you can't read anything on LUN 4 except the GPT.
I guess that the restrictions aren't enabled.
Usually they are.

Success. I booted the patched image without flashing, the used dd to copy the boot partition. The dd copy was identical to the one created by edl. I am now rooted.

Thanks so much for your help. I would still be struggling without it.

Quick question can I follow similar steps with the nova air 2? Or do I need different files specifically the loader?

Based on my experience with a NoteAir3, I'd say just try it and see what happens. I had to try 4 different loader files before I found the one that worked. The three that failed caused no permanent damage - I just held the power button down until it rebooted.

If you are able to get a boot image, the rest of the steps should work.

Keep in mind, I am a newbie at this, and am just stating what worked for me. Someone with more experience may have a different recommendation.

There is this thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=357326 They were having trouble with finding a loader that worked and then suddenly all of them worked. I don't know where the confusion/randomness came along. Try using that same factory SDM662 file. If you have a Windows box hanging around I'd rather work with my software than the Python stuff. If you can't get a loader to work then we're stuck waiting around until an update is released.
