David Bowie’s List of Top 100 Books

Don't know that anyone will care, but part of the new "David Bowie Is", exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario is a list of the singers favorite reads.

Quote:
Curator Geoffrey Marsh describes Bowie as "a voracious reader" who is reputed to read as much as "a book a day". Marsh went on to speak about Bowie's interest in the life of the mind and its power to transcend the rigid class barriers of postwar England, the era where Bowie honed the early versions of his musical and cultural persona.
Quote:
Best of all, curators Marsh and Victoria Broackes have released a list of Bowie's favourite reads. So if you've ever wanted to read like one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century (and still going strong in the twenty-first!), check out this list of excellent books. The list shows an amazing depth and breadth of interest, taste and genre from the icon, who has himself been the subject of more than sixty books. There was never any doubt that Bowie is a genius, but if there had been, this list should more than quiet any critics.

I'm a great fan of Bowie, but I'm unsure why I should care what he reads. Still, if the list makes some non-reading fan somewhere start reading, then it's all good I guess.

I can always respect a person putting The Outsider by Camus in a Top 100. Loved that book.

I was a big fan of Bowie in the 1970's. That's a great list as well. I've read 20 of the books on that list.

I always like these types of lists to see which ones I've actually read. 8 for me on this one.

I've always liked Bowie.

Good to see The Leopard, by Lampedusa, on that list too.

Orlando Figes and Arthur Koestler? Bowie might be a non-utopian rock star. Rare.

Anyone remember him on Saturday Night Live with Klaus Nomi? http://vimeo.com/69749870
