Well, that was exciting ... waves of violent thunderstorms from noon until now ... tornadoes on the ground in the northeastern counties ... torrential rains .... hail falling like snow ....
Goldie cat sheltered under the end table, Stella cat clung to me, and Sammie cat slept through the entire event ... |

And ... NC weather was the lead story for tonight's news with Dianne Sawyer .... if you saw it - I was under the black clouds photographed from the Durham Sky-Cam ...

What meteorological phenomenon (phenomena) affects you this day ?
And, no, I didn't see your area on Sawyer's report. I had the news on, and tuned to ABC, but the local news was staying on with news of the storm, as was our local CBS affiliate, so I turned to the NBC newscast.

All calm today - supposed to be a gorgeous weekend in NC.
Although things are going to be 'lively' in tornado alley - in the midsection of the US ... |

Same here. I just wish 2 out of the 3 local broadcasters hadn't chosen to preempt the national newscast with news of the storm. That could have been handled just as well with a scroll at the bottom of the screen. It's doubly bad because on the 6:30 broadcast you only get about 10 minutes of news, and it's usually put right at the beginning. The last few minutes are always devoted to some feel-good fluff story, and the rest of the half hour is filled with either some high profile crime, or some celebrity misstep, or something equally inane that doesn't affect my life in the least but all is being reported as if it's the story of the century.

Once again, NC weather is headlining the national news - tornadoes on the ground tonight, more violent weather to develop tomorrow ....
Fortunately for the roost, the most severe storms are staying to the east of us (so far) ... but watch out Tom - they're heading your way ... |

Lovely. Thanks for the heads-up. I saw earlier where strong storms were expected for tonight and more tomorrow. Right now it's pretty quiet, but it's been misting/raining all day. Lake Dubyatee is back, but at least now I have a pump rigged up and a buried ½" pvc line running to the street so I can pump it out whenever the rain stops.

Cold, rainy, and windy -- but at least the winds haven't organized themselves into something dangerous!

Woken up at 4 am by a band of thunderstorms ... tornado warnings up at 6 am ...
Went to bed at 55 F, woke up at 70 F .... all the windows in the house were clouded up with condensation .... Going to be a dangerous weather day today .... intermittent sunlight heating an over-saturated atmosphere ... cold front arriving late afternoon .... severe storms & tornadoes predicted .... |

Good luck, poohbear_nc! It's windy up here, but no tornadoes expected. We're getting heavy rain with some local flooding, and the temperature is in the 40s.

Apparently the morning round of storms kept the promised afternoon storms from developing - had some monsoon rain - but no wind or tornadoes ....
The cold front is FINALLY rolling through tomorrow .... they say ... |

Cloudy and breezy, but comfortable outside. A nice day, overall.
