replaced under warranty

Just thought i should let you know, i have just had my Cybook replaced under warrenty.

i have had my Gen3 from the beginning, it was sent out inthe first batch, about a month ago it developed a line on the screen (one row of reversed Pixels) i debated about sending it back, but after reading on this forum that people were sending their Cybooks with what they thought were screen controller problems then getting stung for a new screen, i decided not to.

however it was very irritating the one line flashing white when the rest flashed black, so i emailed Bookeen got my RMA number, sent it off to them and waited in vain for an email saying they had recieved it, i emailed them a week and a half later and then at two weeks, when i finally got an answer, it was packed and ready to come back.

I received it this morning, they have sent me out a new one, all bright and shiney and ready for books whoo! hoo!

Thought i should mention it, as i havent seen any replaced under warrenty threads.

That's good to know jayne, as I'm waiting for my first one to arrive.

How old was it, and can I ask why you didn't take it back to the retailer to sort out (or did you buy direct)?

If it was one of the first batch of Gen3, that means that it was received in early November 2007. The only "retailer" at that time was Bookeen themselves.

Wonderful news that they replaced it under warranty Jayne!

How long did it take for them to respond to your email and send you an RMA? I've emailed them from two different accounts with no response yet. It has only been a few days but I do wish they at least had some sort of automated "we have received your email and will contact you shortly" type of email response. I am quite anxious to have a working Cybook again.

A miracle! We have a miracle!

First Bookeen answers to a costumer in their Blog in the 2th of October (they sell the Cybook since November last year, 11 months ago), now they replace a Cybook under warrenty (at least known in this forum)!!!
Amazing!

Sorry I could not control myself… great they did that and that jayne80 has one new baby to enjoy.
And thanks for sharing the information, it’s good to know this so more people can try to get their products repaired under the legal period as it should happen with any artefact buying => does not function, repaired or changed.

Good to hear, and thanks for posting this, as we haven't had many "happy" stories about replacements under Bookeen's warranty.

Another Warranty Repair

Happily, my screen issue turns out to have been the controller. I received a brand new unit from Bookeen less than a week and a half after taking it to the post office! Hopefully there will be more units replaced under warranty. (Although, come to think of it, it would be better if there were less problems and they just held up)

I got my Cybook replaced and they actually sent an email about it (which I totally missed to read so the fedex package just appeared). The message from Bookeen said "The display is indeed defective. The replacement unit should be sent back today."
