So... I bought myself a Kindle today
It's crazy... It's less than 2 months after I bought the Hanvon N516, but I'm happy with my decision.
The thing is, I'm not really that happy with the Hanvon... It doesn't resume on the page I left, when turned back on, and I have to search for it. I got the Kindle from Amazon for only 6AUD more (with leather case and shipping included) than what my Hanvon cost me (including vinyl case and shipping) - and my dog ate the vinyl case, or at least put huge marks on it. Estimated delivery on the Kindle is 29/1, but I doubt that. It took a lot longer to deliver my Hanvon, which was bought from Australia... Can't wait! |

I hope so... I really like the look of it... I don't like the 'whispernet', but as far as I understand it, I don't have to use it...

I don't ever use whispernet. I keep all my books in Calibre, so it is easier to download to my computer, put it in Calibre, and move it from there.

I just had a look at the Amazon site... They have added Lene's 3rd kindle to it already... I thought I had to activate it or something???
The other 2 are my computer and my netbook. |

... and today I checked the status of the delivery... My Kindle is already in Brisbane, so I should get it on Monday.
Just bought a couple of FREE books from Amazon (at $2 each), and they will be downloaded to my Kindle on Monday... Oh.... yeah... I'm excited! |

Don't be surprised if the books are already on there. I don't know why you don't like the Wispernet. It's free and allows your purchases to show up almost instantly.

And it arrived - right on time
Wow! I really like the look and feel of it... The fact there's so much room at the bottom before the screen, means I can rest it on my stomach and still read the bottom line...
Right now it's charging.. |

I thought using the whispernet would cost extra money - like a mobile phone... but it doesn't. I am hugely impressed with this unit... |

First congrats on a nice reader. I capitulated and bought a 3rd Kindle because I got a great deal on my newest K2i, $159 new from Amazon after my new Audible subscription. I like it well enough. And, well, not gonna find a reader for that price anywhere that is as nice as the K2i, not today anyway.
Something I found made a huge difference was using the K2i Font Hack and switched to the Helvetica font over the default K2i font...made all the difference, had I been forced to read using the default font, I would have just turned around as sold it for the $120ish profit then used the cash to by a Pocketbook reader instead...but the Helvetica makes it a nice reader now. But Google "kindle font hack", you will need to decide if it's right for you but once you try the different font options (it's tedious as one needs to uninstall the previous hack before trying a different one) you will be surprised at the difference in clarity. Oh, I believe your K2i is likely running firmware version 2.3 (newest firmware). And the install stuff is pretty easy and you can do it "cookbook" style just following the instructions like reading a cookbook. Here is the page with the fonts and instructions as well as sample images to show the differences even before trying it out: https://sites.google.com/a/etccreati...kindlev23fonts There is a thread here with links to the font hack as well, I would post the link but am between laptops until my new one gets here this afternoon and I port everything over. But someone will have it for you if you can't find it. Last edited by brecklundin; 02-01-2010 at 03:52 PM. |
