Bob, I hope you don't ever end the club for a reason like that! One person's bitching is another person's healthy debate. And then there's someone like JSWolf who is a master debater.

I completely agree with your post in spirit. My previous post was made in response to some trying to restrict the selection choices for various reasons that I am not a fan of. I have no problem with someone basing their own vote on whichever reasons they like; I just am not a fan of the voting discussion turning to those as valid reasons for encouraging others to vote a certain way.

However, I certainly understand that people are free to post what they like. LIkewise though, I would hope one would be equally as free to post a rebuttal as to why perhaps those reasons shouldn't be taken into consideration.

Bob, I hope you don't ever think that we're criticising you! At least, I know I'm not. That's the farthest thing from my mind. I think you're doing a fantastic job since I've been a part of this, especially at keeping things nice and simple and fun.

Glad to here it still remains fun. I am just sorry that I did not find out about it until today, although it looks like fun. I promise never to complain too much, however I do enjoy venting on occasion. Drats, double drats - there I go venting a tad. Do we get to vote on next months topic? My nomination is Sci-fi (remember I just learned about this group today thus I have no knowledge if you did this recently.)

Some publishers, such as Baen, acquire non-exclusive worldwide rights for ebooks and thus sell everywhere, but that's rare except for small/niche publishers.
Thank you all, for your explanations! This makes me agree with Sun Surfer even more, as the books are usually available in paper, and it ids the readers choice whether to purchase it or not.

I understand Bob's point about too many rules, and I do not think Sun Surfer was suggestion any, but was actually asking for a more "fair" voting process (free of price or format restrictions).

About price restrictions, I refuse to pay $9 for an electronic book, thats simply too much as I tend to preferr to pay less rather than more. However I understand that not all members hold to such rigid price restrictions as I do. I promise to sit down and be quiet about a particular novel if an expensive one is chosen for a particular month. I firmly believe that each person is entitled to their own opinion.

As far as I remember, we generally manage to select cheap or free books as book of the month, so I don't think you have much to fear.

I totally agree.. but there is a difference in saying:

That book is a bit much for me to buy, so I'm going to sit out this month.

than saying:

I can't afford all these expensive books... lets add a rule that the book can't be more than $5.

Better to say:

I can't find that ebook here in Zimbabwe so I'm going to sit out.

than saying:

You guys all suck and choose books I can never acquire... we must only choose books that are available world wide.

Better to say:

In my opinion that book is not a classic and should not have been nominated.

than saying...

This months vote is wrong and must be started again since xxxx isn't a classic.

And sometimes the book of the month is available from some libraries.

Need to vent a tad - my local libraries motto should be "What ever you want we don't have it, what ever you don't want we got it." No reflection on the reading group what so ever.

Congrats! I'm still on part 3, as I've been busier than usual lately (and read another book at the same time). I'm still enjoying AK and plan to finish.

Yeah, I finished it a few days ago. I've been reading Riders of the Purple Sage since, and just finished that last night. Starting Room [my local library's afternoon book club selection] by Emma Donoghue this morning.

Finished it on the 11th and then read Riders of the Purple Sage for the discussion that will be going on that.
