Smile HTMLZ > ePub gives Page Error on PRS-600

I have converted several Kindle .azw files for reading on my Sony PRS-600. Calibre works great! However, the last one I tried, gives me a Page Error on the PRS-600. I can view the file correctly on the Calibre reader, but the PRS-600 only shows the cover page and the Table of contents.
The conversion screen shows HTMLZ as the input, and ePub as the output.
I tried converting the HTMLZ to PDF - but was unsuccessful. (error statement - empty file)
I am running Windows XP, Calibre 8.18. Sony PRS-600
The book giving me problems is "The Philosophers' Quarrel: Rousseau, Hume, and the Limits of Human Understanding"
Any help would be most appreciated!

Is your ePub output Split files larger than still set to 260k?

Was this an azw4 file?

Yes the "Split files larger than" is still set to 260K.
The file shows up in Windows explorer as .azw
thanks!

If the file shows as AZW in Windows Explorer then it isn't an HTMLZ. The empty input error from the HTMLZ conversion is because there is not HTMLZ data in the file.

It only shows as azw in My Kindle Content, it shows as htmlz after being added to calibre.

I downloaded the sample and it is a topaz file. I converted it to ePub and had the same "Page error" you saw. I opened the book in Sigil and on what looks to be the copyright page I found the following code for svg images.

Spoiler:
Code:
    <p class="cl-f-c-fr-v"><img alt="" class="calibre3" src="../Images/page0002_0000.svg" /></p>
    <div class="calibre2" id="page0003" title="pagetype_copyrt"></div>
    <p class="cl-f-c-fr-v"><img alt="" class="calibre3" src="../Images/page0003_0000.svg" /></p>
    <p class="cl-f-c-fr-v"><img alt="" class="calibre3" src="../Images/page0003_0001.svg" /></p>
    <p class="cl-f-c-fr-v"><img alt="" class="calibre3" src="../Images/page0003_0002.svg" /></p>

I removed this code and saved the file. Then I removed the book from the Sony, resent the adjusted file and it worked fine. I guess this isn't the way ADE on the Sony expects SVG files to be handled.

While your in Sigil you can go into images and delete the 4 SVG images before you save the book to reduce the size of the book.

Fantastic! I used Sigil - searched for and removed all the <p class etc> code referring to an svg file just as you suggested - and then re-sent to my Sony. It works!! I guess you are right - Sony readers cannot digest svg files in an ePub like this.
Thank you so much!!

Your Welcome.

The Sony devices handle SVG files, look at the code view of the title page for an example how calibre handles the SVG cover image. Kovid doesn't treat it as a normal image.

On the very very rare occasion my reader hiccups on a book (I think its been 2 years since the last one) I open it up and find whatever junk is in the area that might be unique and axe it.

Hi,

Instead of removing the svg images, you should simply convert the svg images to png or jpeg images. That way you will not lose tables or information.

The easiest way to do that is unpack the epug, use a good image conversion program, and then edit the links to point to the newly created png images (i.e. replace the .svg with .png)
