Apple Siri says, what do you want from me, Perfection?
More problems with Siri, besides data usage, accents, etc.
But hey, what's an Apple to do? Be Perfect? Apple Sued Over Siri's Shortcomings By Ian Paul, PCWorld Mar 13, 2012 10:19 AM "Apple Sued Over Siri's ShortcomingsA Brooklyn man recently launched a class-action lawsuit against Apple over Siri, the popular personal digital assistant on the iPhone 4S, claiming the feature can't understand directions, locate nearby stores, and often produces incorrect answers. This poor performance has lead Frank M. Fazio to allege that Apple's advertising campaign for Siri showing people using Siri to help them learn to play music, find local restaurants and schedule appointments is misleading. Fazio bought an iPhone 4S in November for $299 (presumably the 32GB model), and claims he would not have shelled out that much money for a new iPhone if not for Apple's Siri advertisements. "The iPhone 4S's Siri feature does not perform as advertised," the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of Northern California reads. "...Siri is, at best, a work in progress." Apple, in fact, has said the same thing about Siri, calling it a beta feature. As the lawsuit points out, however, Apple does not always mention this in its promotional material touting the feature..." http://www.pcworld.com/article/25175...rtcomings.html There is a lot more elsewhere comparing Siri to a Japanese product, and other problems, but enough for now. Still some might ask, should we give Apple a break? Heck no. We were promised "MAGIC!" |

Yes, Siri sucks, has major trouble understanding accents and is quite gimmicky. However, I dislike pointless class action lawsuits more. Granted, I'd be happy to have those Siri commercials gone. It really is false advertising. While we watch most of our shows on DVR and can just skip the commercials, we can't do that when watching the news on Live TV. The girl my wife works with was SUPER pissed about Siri not being like the commercials. "It takes a while for the b**** to answer me!" is something she said all the time. I made sure to point out that the fine print on the commercial says "Sequences shortened".

i'm really tempted to dig out louis ck's 'everything is amazing and nobody is happy' yet again.
cheez 'n rice, you have a phone, which is now pretty much a pocket computer, that you can talk to and ask questions and have it answer you, and that still isn't effing good enough for people? you're carrying access to everything everyone has ever known ever in your pocket and i guess some people just have higher standards than that. maybe its not perfect but jesus, calm down and get a little perspective. and why didn't the tool try it before he bought it instead of blindly getting in line like a brainless drone? I think the problem is how Apple misrepresents the product, rather than what it allows you to do.

This reminds me of a recent lawsuit about a hybrid car.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1248357.html That's the one. People don't read the small letters and producers won't point them out clearly... |

That is the thing with tech products, if they brought one to market that fulfilled all your wishes you wouldn't upgrade for four or five more years. So it is baby steps, always dangling the carrot of future improvements in front of you.
Unless you are talking about a company that has been unsuccessful for quite some time, they need to make a splash and go all out. |

Siri is very human. Sometimes she meets your expectations, sometimes she falls short, sometimes she doesn't show up for work at all.

Isn't suing for false advertisement a win for consumers?

See, the thing is, anytime something is brought out and is new, you should expect issues. Also, anyone who buys something for one feature, that is new and untested, you should shouldn't complain. Yeah, Apple hasn't done a great job of publicizing how real life Siri isn't exactly like the commercials show, but it is still in the fine print. If it was such a problem for the guy, why didn't he read the fine print. I'm sure he would have realized he could have got his money back too, if he acted soon enough.

My bet is that is why Siri wasn't on the new iPad (3?). |

This is why I don't ask her anything. She just wastes my time & most of the time is useless. Wait....we weren't talking about my wife???
