oh yes: indeed I feel quite silly for not seeing it - shame on me, will try harder
Are there no laws against cruel and unusual pun-ishment?

No, not in the forum etiquette, but there should be! . One should automatically be conferred greater Kharma based on the severity of the offense... Much of the forum is naturally gloom and doom as people seek help for issues, the occasional bit of punniness can only serve to pierce the gloom -maybe even the bride.

There are those who claim that puns are the lowest form of humour and those who claim that puns are not humour. Then we have Oscar Levant's comment on puns: "A pun is the lowest form of humor—when you don't think of it first."

I've heard the arguments before, but I honestly think puns can be rather a lot of work at times for potentially little reward, but the groans and sounds of foreheads being slapped by a hand can often be more rewarding than laughter. Do you remember Ferdinand Feghoot?

Ah, the memories. The waif of the fuschia. Typical gnu and tiler too. The dim oyster sinker. Ahhh... my head is exploding!!! Remember Kelvin Throop?
