And the problem is that the hack on 3.19 is not going to work with the current firmware. Somewhere along the line, that hack stopped working and you need a different hack.

I saw this:
https://yingtongli.me/blog/2018/07/30/kobo-rego.html
It worked for me like a charm for the Kobo Glo HD, both in original (3.14) firmware and current. If you already turned on your Kobo and plugged it into a PC, just reboot it and the registration steps will probably be gone.
Good luck!

Not a hack, and it works just fine with current firmware.

Even if it is, what harm does it do you? None.

Only the people who use it could possibly be harmed by it. That’s their choice.

Of course the fact that it’s rather unlikely to do any permanent harm to them is probably an important factor too.

Do you ever feel that people find your constant repetition of arguments that are clearly dismissed to be annoying and you are being ostracized? If so, there's no need to worry about it, you are *not* paranoid.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. On my new(ish) H2O I could skip the registration by inserting a user with a SQLite-editor:

insert into user (userid, userkey) values ('0','1');
