That might be more information then we really needed to know... But thanks for sharing.

Nope! This one's a keeper. I remained a happy divorcé for 17 years before I found a suitable replacement, but once I found her I knew I wouldn't need another! She's my best friend!

Having my first night time/morning time nosebleed of this winter . Not a bad one, luckily, and I'm glad it isn't during the night (waking up with a taste in your mouth as if something has died in your mouth during the night is not fun).

Is the humidity very low in your house? Dry air can cause a lot of nose bleeding. When I lived in the Texas panhandle, the air was so dry that if you just pressed against your nose it would start to bleed.

Try a humidifier in your room overnight and see if that helps. It worked for me!

I thought that might be the problem and two years ago I bought a humidifier but I still got nosebleeds. I also get nosebleeds when I have hayfever or when I'm stressed so it's just one of those things. If I get annoyed enough I might make an appointment with the doctor to see what she can do about it.

Let us assume that you are really annoyed and make an appointment with the doctor. Random nose bleeds ar not good. Please call the doctor.

When I was a kid I used to get nose bleeds ALL the time. The doctor used some sort of chemical cauterization, a piece of gauze pad soaked in 'something' that he rolled up and put into my nostrils. I had to repeat at home for 2-3 days, and then never had the problem again. I only had to keep the gauze in for about 30 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a day. Absolutely painless, and solved the problem.

Thank you for your concern, I will, although I think it's got to do with cold temperatures since I only have it in my bedroom (cold) or when I'm outside in winter or have just been outside.

Thank you for this description, in Dutch they call the procedure cauterizing but they don't mention it's chemical. I always had a vision of the doctor coming at you with a soldering iron (I know it won't be like that but still).

As I said, I was a little kid at the time... probably 8 or 9, and I too, when hearing that they were going to cauterize my nose, had visions of the doctor with a blow torch. I really tried to be brave about the whole affair, but I think I probably wet my pants walking into the doctor's office. You can NOT imagine the relief I felt when he told me what he was going to do. He probably saw me standing there shaking like a leaf in stark terror!

I used to get a lot of nosebleeds too. In my case the cauterisation procedure gave me the worst nosebleed I'd ever had, and certainly didn't fix the problem. I still get them sometimes during/after a cold. My best advice would be to stop blowing your nose, or at least do it gently!

I will get the occassional bloody discharge when I blow my nose and then I remember to turn on the humidifier. That normally fixes it.

Damn that makes me kind of happy that my last trouble was a jammed drawer (the one with my tools) all I had to do was unscrew the rails and then fix it all again

Afrin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrin_%28nasal_spray%29) nasal spray will stop a nosebleed fast! Until you get mad enough to visit the doctor, keep a bottle with you!

Those don't seem to be available in the Netherlands . The only anti-nosebleed things I could find were a sort of caps you can stuff in your nose to stop the bleeding. Luckily the nosebleeds are at the back of my nose and since I sleep on my back the blood runs into my throat.

I was thinking that since it happens mostly at night and the bleeding happens at the back of my nose/top of my throat it might be caused by how I breathe through my nose at night (combined with colder air).

Cultural differences... In the US, when we get a nose bleed, we tear off a small piece of tissue or gauze and put it in the nostril. Only a small bit protrudes. In Japan, they roll up the corner of a tissue and stick that in their nose, and walk around with the rest of the tissue hanging out. Frankly, I think it's a fashion statement.

The something may have been cocaine. That's what they soaked the bandages with that they stuffed up my nose after cauterizing both nostrils.
