4 days left to return Kindle...need advice fast
I just purchased my first Kindle (latest generation w/3G) from Staples and they only give 14 days for return.
I downloaded my first book and I have no problems with the screen, reading, flipping pages...it's easy to use in that respect. I obviously haven't come across all the issues I expect will come in the future, but a few that have me baffled: 1. When you bookmark a page, I see it puts it into My Clippings on the home page...but I can't find a way to actually go to that location that has been bookmarked...I mean isn't that the point of a bookmark?...instead it brings up definitions, it allows you makes notes, all in My Clippings...what is the purpose of the bookmark and is there a way to go to the location using a bookmark? 2. After testing the above, I created several bookmarks/clippings and wanted to delete them but could only delete the entire clippings folder...this can't be good, can it?...is there a way to delete one clipping from the clippings folder? 3. Since I have only one book on my Kindle, I'm curious to know what happens as you download more...I created a collection with the author's lastname, moved the book to the collection, but the book still shows up as a seperate listing on my home page...I thought it would move it and that's where I would go to access it...as I download more books, will they all just be listed on the home page without being able to put them somewhere in an orderly manner? Please someone help...I know these seem like minor questions, but $200 is $200 and why should I keep something that is not user friendly. Thank you so much!!!! |

Welcome to MobileRead, hope815.
If you don't get answers shortly........have you looked at this page? http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200503360 Lots of FAQ's there.....also, if you use the 'contact us' button at the right, you can talk to a K specialist almost immediately. |

"View my notes and marks" is also were you go to return to a bookmarked page.

Just because you bought the Kindle at Staples does not mean you cannot use Amazons Kindle Support. If you are having problems with your unit or have questions, feel free to call them. They are very helpful folks.

Take an hour or so to read the manual of the Kindle on Amazon.com, as Grandma advised, and play around. Put some free books from Mobile Read (see ' Sticky" at the top of the page) and try different things out. If the Kindle bricks, you can easy reboot it by holding the on-button till the green light flickers or somewhat longer (>20 sec if that doesn't help). It doesn't break that easy.
As for collections; search on the forum, there's been plenty said about it. For me its works fine. I start every collection with an underscore, space, capital (A,B,C etc), point, space, and then the name g.e - A. Novel A-H -A. Novel I-Z and then on to g.e. - B. Crime A-H. and so on. At the top you can choose for show by most recent first, author, title, collection. When you select ' title' , the Kindle shows first al the collections, sorted how you want them to appear (by putting a symbol like underscore in front) and all the books. The books are always both in one or more collections and on your home page. I've had an ereader before, so I know how user-friendly this Kindle-one is and also how friendly Amazon is towards customers. Do give it a fair try, I would say and if you have questions after reading the manual; people on the forum will help you. Good luck. Last edited by desertblues; 10-20-2010 at 10:11 AM. (I have quoted "inside" and "enter" as collections are really not folders, just tags) I believe that's what puzzled the OP in question 3. |

Perhaps it may seem more "user friendly" if you were to read the User Guide? Really, it does answer all this kind of question.

Ah yes, the age-old advice to RTFM! There should also be a User's Manual already on your Kindle. And it has a search function which you can access within a book by pressing "Menu" and then selecting "Search This Book".

ok relax, this is one of the purposes of a forum ya know...to ask people with more knowledge about something that is new to a user...and I did read some of the manual, but since I'm in crunch time, I don't have time to search LOCATIONS throughout the manual...lol...and it's better to get advice from those who have used the product for a while

1. Go view my notes and marks, click on a bookmark, and BAM you're at that page
2. Same thing, except instead of clicking on the bookmark, press "del" 3. Sort by collection, and the duplicates will go away. |
