Free today from Amazon: McCreed's Law by L.J. Martin. Published by Pinnacle in mass market paperback (2006) and Thorndike in hardcover (2007).

Quote:
Gone, a shipment of gold and a handful of passengers from the transcontinental. Found, one man who has the skill, motivation and courage to track down the mad dog outlaws who hit the train. Now the U.S. Army and detective Morris Flannigan have invited the devil to join their detail--bringing lawless Kane McCreed into the hunt for a band of savage criminals. McCreed plans on laying down his own brand of law...or dying for the one brand of justice he can understand. And he doesn't plan to have any McCreed's die in the process.

Free today on Amazon from Linford Western Library: Railroaded! by Mark Bannerman, a Black Horse Western first published by Robert Hale, Ltd. (2001) Here's an interesting website on Black Horse Westerns: http://website.lineone.net/~adam_and_lynne/ UK

Quote:
After the Civil War, Kansas was a lawless land ripe for exploitation. German immigrant Helmut Rapp and his wife risk everything as they battle the cruel elements, the Indian threat and the dangers of the raw environment. Furthermore, Helmut has dark secrets in his past, and events force him to act with uncharacteristic ferocity. With the new railroad thrusting towards his land and greedy and unscrupulous men stopping at nothing to gain advantage, Helmut strives to preserve the life and obscurity he has worked so hard to achieve. But mob violence and murder erupt, ripping his world apart and forcing him into a deadly duel that can only be resolved by the blast of gunfire.

Sale price of $1.99 on Amazon US: Trail Hand by R.W. Stone. Published in hardcover by Five Star (2006) and in mass market paperback by Leisure (2008).

Booklist Review:

Quote:
Owen Burke is an itinerant cowpoke scuffling by in south-of-the-border San Rafael when he learns of work at Enrique Allende's horse ranch. He secures a job as a scout to lead a herd of horses to California. Before the drive begins, though, he earns the enmity of Chavez, the ranch ramrod, when Chavez sees him speaking with Allende's daughter, Rosa Maria. Soon after the drive is underway--with Chavez and Burke's feud simmering below the surface--rustlers make off with the herd. Chavez convinces the Allende crew it was an inside job, and Burke was the insider. In short order, Burke is convinced he must catch the rustlers and recover the herd before Chavez's ad hoc posse catches him. In his first published novel, Stone, a medical professional by trade, bursts onto the western scene with a suspenseful yarn replete with action, a chaste romance, and a very likable narrator in Burke. Western genre fiction is in need of some fresh voices. Stone and Burke fill the bill nicely. Wes Lukowsky

Free today from Amazon: The Modoc Kid by Mark Bannerman. Previously printed as a Dales Large Print Western and by Ulverscroft Large Print Books (2007) UK

Quote:
Oregon, 1873. Michael Barncho is charged with the murder of an American general. He and his fellow conspirators face a military tribunal at Fort Klamath. The nation is crying out for revenge. Found guilty, the death sentence is a formality. Chained together, the condemned men are led to the gallows, but Barncho survives in the most bizarre fashion.

Free today at Amazon: K Company by Robert Broomall. First published in mass market paperback by Fawcett (1992). UK

Quote:
Harry Winston was too young to serve in the Civil War, so he enlists in the post-war cavalry, seeking glory and adventure. He is assigned to K Company, on the western edge of the Kansas frontier. What he finds there is brutal discipline combined with bad food, monotonous drill, and make-work details. Even worse, he makes an enemy of Link Hayward, toughest soldier in the company, who’s been broken in rank more times than he can count. Link thinks Harry is a coward and urges him to desert. Taunted by Link, not accepted by K Company’s veterans, Harry begins to doubt himself.

Then the company is ordered into the field, and in a battle with the Cheyenne, Harry learns what he’s really made of.

Repeat freebie at Amazon: Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles Vol. II by Edward A. Grainger, from Beat To a Pulp online magazine. Although it does not appear to be traditionally published, it has 103 Amazon reviews and 4.8 stars. (Not available in the UK)

Quote:
Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles Vol. II continues to chronicle the tales of two unorthodox 19th century U.S. Marshals. With seven more adventures, this collection includes the novella "Origin of White Deer" where the outlaw marshal leaves his Arapaho home as a teen to find his roots in the lawless town of Cheyenne, Wyoming. These noir tales infuse the Western genre with a fresh perspective on topics like race relations and social justice while still delivering pulse-racing action in the tradition of Wanted: Dead or Alive and Gunsmoke.

Today's Kindle Daily Deal for $1.99: The Cowboy and the Cossack by Clair Huffaker. First published in 1973 by Trident Press.
UK £1.49
CA CDN$1.99

I read and enjoyed this last year. Recommended if you like westerns.

Quote:
On a cold spring day in 1880, fifteen American cowboys sail into Vladivostock with a herd of 500 cattle for delivery to a famine stricken town deep in Siberia. Assigned to accompany them is a band of Cossacks, Russia’s elite horsemen and warriors. From the first day, distrust between the two groups disrupts the cattle drive. But as they overcome hardships and trials along the trail, a deep understanding and mutual respect develops between the men in both groups.
