Changing text size and fonts with PRS 505

I have reasonably successfully been downloading *.txt files onto my Sony PRS 505 reader and appreciate one can change text size with one of the reader's buttons. However working with Vista I opened a *.txt file with Microsoft Word 2007, changed the font type and text size, saved as a *.txt file and then downloaded to the PRS but neither the font or text size changed i.e changing the font and size appeared tp make no diffrence to how the download is read by the PRS505. I am sure I am doing something wrong but how can I change the fonts and text size for the reader. Incidently I normally use Microsoft Word and also have the book files in html as well as .txt format.

The TXT format didn't get any informations on font and size when saved, so after modifing the file using Word save it in RTF format.
