If they announce stuff before Apple does at least they can't get sued for copying Apple.
Seriously, Apple used to announce new products in February and June. It is their own fault that they can't keep up with other companies' fast pace in developing new products and schedule their announcements right in the busy season before Christmas when everybody and his dog tries to get their new products on the market. And if Apple was the reason for the exact timing -- why wouldn't the others wait for that magical new product and then try to tweak their own designs after the Apple announcement? Once, when Apple still was the design leader, Samsung did that. Last edited by HansTWN; 08-24-2012 at 06:55 PM. |

I'll be honest, when someone says "Apple TV" to me, what jumps into my mind is the Macintosh TV from '93. It was an LC 5xx with a TV tuner and a black case. It was also a relatively bad market flop even compared to Apple's floundering market share during that time period.

It's reporting like this which gives the impression that Apple has failed in the world-dominating sense.
The same words are often written by more mainstream journalists about Apple TV. And of course, I'm not talking about Apple's more recent and attractive developments in that area. I'm talking specifically about sales from 2007 to 2011. The Air or iPhone it isn't. The point usually made is that Apple TV has failed as a standard so far -- that even Netflix is flaying its greenish tart-sweet fruit flesh. I don't see how anyone can take that as an insult to Apple when we tend to look to them for more active kit. You don't see me belittling Apple's strengths on this thread (but neither do I intend to lick their products verbally -- I believe in choices, not brand wars or inexorable allegiances). Wow, September is gonna be a very busy month. I'm still waiting for the rumored Apple TV to come out any minute. I hope it'll get rid of the terrible design of existing TVs.

There's only a slight difference in the announcements...
Apple: "you can get it [now...within 4 weeks]" Everyone else: "ETA [next year...never made it]" |
