Epub on Ipad: pictures cut in half

We have produced a epub for our customer and he tells us that the pictures are cut on the Ipad. That means that the upper half of the picture is shown on the bottom of the one page and the lower half is shown on the top of the next page.

Does someone know this behaviour?
We don't have an Ipad, so we cannot prove it

If pictures are treated like this on the Ipad, does someone know how to avoid such a behaviour?

Indeed Liz Castro knows a lot about epub-images in IBooks. But she does not explain the behaviour that our customer has explained
