The Kindle Fire charger works on my Kindles and phones. It just doesn't work on the tablets due to the different connection on these devices.

Yup, my problem is that the IPad has a different connection than the Kindle

Your iPad charger, though, will work absolutely fine with the Kindle. Just plug a microUSB cable into it.

Correct - the connector on the charger is a regular connector. I just use the cable I got with my Kindle DX, nothing special.

I can understand the reverse being true. I could understand the above being true only if the device being charged relied on the charging device for current limiting. Odd that.

Well, this Blackberry phone is an odd duck. I bought a 2000 mA USB charger with 2 USB ports when I was on a business trip to Spain last year and the phone would not charge when the USB cord was connected to it.

That 2-port charger worked with my Kindle, mp3 player, rechargeable speaker and GPS just fine.

The phone would only charge when I used a regular Kindle charger (with the European prongs).

All USB chargers output at 5 volts. Read the print on the charger, choose the one that has the highest amperage rating for fastest charging.
Well to be fair the "Tablet" (Nook Color/Tablet, Fire) e-reader's have built special high power recharging solutions that require the special "extra" pin proprietary chargers to run in their high power modes.
