"Amazon says Kindle ebook sales have overtaken print
For every 100 hardback and paperback book sold in UK, 114 ebooks are downloaded in 'reading renaissance'"

The second sentence doesn't actually support the first - it says that for every 100 pbooks sold, 114 ebooks are downloaded. How many of the pbooks are free?

Amazon said the figures included sales of printed books which did not have Kindle editions, but excluded free ebooks.
None of the pBooks were free, and none of the eBooks were free.

But the numbers would include those cheap 0.99 ebooks, whereas the cheapest pbook would be around 4 times that price.

That was my recollection too but I did look it up and it's not true. In the US, kindle books have indeed already passed print books on Amazon. An article from May 2011:

Thanks to PC Mag for actually linking to this article from their more recent article about the UK. Kinda like doing some reporting!

If you read the article you'd know that none were FREE books.

That's just what I was thinking. When it takes a week or two for a pbook to arrive if bought online and it only takes 5 seconds to buy an ebook naturally people are going to buy more of them in a given period of time.
