Comparable sales figures??

Does anyone have a rough idea how many units have actually been sold (that's hardware not the ebooks)?

Is there a clear sales winner?

My guess given the lower price would be the Sony Reader.

I would think the Reader is definitely the clear winner just because of retail presence alone. How many Readers do you think Borders, SonyStyle, CompUSA, Fry's, Best Buy, etc... order nationwide for their stores?

Now that is in the US of course, in Europe maybe it's different because the Reader is not officially offered there.

Clear winner

hmmm.... if the clear winner has only racked up 52k, that suggests its still quite a small market.... maybe next year things will take off.

By next year there should be more readers available to choose from and hopefully sometime next year we'll also be seeing Digital Editions on board some of them.

That would be Adobe's Digital Editions, jonf. You can find some info here.

Since so many people seem to get wrapped around the axle (I heard that one from a Texan some years ago) about the lack of reflow in the PDF support for the current Reader, this situation could be corrected when Digital Editions is introduced.

But don't worry, by then the critics will come up with more complains like the quality of the coffee it brews.

I don't see how. Digital editions is not going to be able to reflow PDFs. Its just going to introduce a new format. Reading existing PDFs is still going to be a pain.

Digital Editions will introduce what IDPF has been working on: a new file format to replace OEB (Mobipocket is based on OEB) with much better features. But Digital Editions should also support reflowable PDF even though this won't solve the problem, since most PDF files are not generated with reflow support.
