Motorola launches "e-Ink" phone
Here's an interesting idea - a mobile phone with an e-Ink screen:
http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/11...hips_motofone/ The claimed advantages are that it uses less power than an LCD display, and is less succeptible to damage. |

What?! You mean it's a phone? it's not my "mobile enterainment center" because it can't do videos or color photos?
Wow! A phone that's a phone. Imagine that! |

Dedicated devices just don't do well in modern markets.

It's interesting that in that review they describe the screen as "really white - like paper". That's in contrast to the distinctly "dull grey" screen of the Reader. Having a "whiter" screen would be a good improvement for future versions of the Reader.

I saw it displayed on E-Ink's website, http://www.eink.com, a few weeks back.

I think it has been around for a couple of months on paper (no pun intended). Glad they are finally releasing it.

"My new cell phone lasts for 10000 dialed numbers!"
That'd be cool...but I would really want to see what the real-life talk time (or even standby time) on this turns out to be. I would imagine talk time increases much more compared to standby time since LCD displays are usually activated when the phone is in use.... mmm. Cost must be low too if it's aimed at developing markets. (That's right Motorola; use up more of that e-ink to increase supply and lower the cost of the PRS 2nd edition! ) |

I notice they call it an "electrophoretic display" (EPD). Is that the "correct" name for what we all call "e-Ink"?

Although it occurs to me that "electrophoretic display" isn't really more difficult to say than "e-Ink," maybe even a little easier. |

Its simple, WE NEED MORE E-INK It doesnt matter if its e-ink in a reader, fridge or mobile phone. Just: more e-ink displays used = more displays produced = pricedropp
