automatically rename HTML files
If a file is deleted causing a break in the chronology, is it possible to automatically have all the ones after the break lowered one digit?
edit I just realized that that would mess up all internal links. |

If you select the files, you can easily rename them all at once. Numbers will be incremented.

... and you can leave the names alone. They can be totally random (Sequential is for the Humans use, to help them put/keep things in place)
Names don't set the real order, that is done in the content.opf <spine> in most cases, using Sigil to delete or rename is all that is needed. There are cases where cleanup fails to keep up completely and leaves stale entries BEHIND (to be found by the validation tools ). The new entries are there, so the book works in many cases |

What you cannot do is rename in a way that would reuse an existing name. 1,3,2 cannot be renamed as 1,2,3. You may need to be a little ingenious - rename as a1,a2,a3 instead. (THEN remane as 1,2,3, if it pleases you better.)

d'oh!
When I first open a book, the names of the html files are something like Some_Very_Long_Title of_a_Book_split_000.html through etc etc etc to Some_Very_Long_Title of_a_Book_split_099.html. I've always gone in one at a time to rename them. This is good news! |

The other good bit is that Sigil remembers what the next number in the sequence will be, so if you have a book with parts (and a separate file for the part header), you can renumber the chapters in chunks.

Never knew this was such an unknown feature. It has been like this since 0.6.2 I think?
