Sorting by date in Calibre

Hello,

Is it possible to sort the books by date of publication in Calibre. As there is no specific field for the date, I have not found any way to do this.
Thanks in advance.

There IS a field for Publication date (the rightmost column in the main screen) so you can click on it to sort by it. However I find that it often ends up not set correctly which restricts its usefulness.

itimpi told you where the field is at (if it was not hidden by preferences settings or off screen).

Publication date set from "Get Meta data" is marginal at best.

Book (reprint) version, Publisher data vary all over the map.

Most of it is Data entry inconsistencies that you will need to normalize.
ex.
Baen
Baen Books
Baen Publishing Enterprises <- the official name

The pull down list helps

More complicated are the imprints
do you record?
TOR
TOR Horror
TOR Fantasy
TOR SF or TOR Science Fiction

Some entries even include the Parent company name
Penguin Putnam

A major Pain.

To be fair the data obtained is only as good as the data source used.
