I think it's the assumption that it's caused by the built in "verdana"-font that's true aswell - which one are you using?

Yep, one of the first things I did was installing some fonts...

I use Goudita Sans SF which has a very nice line and word spacing and a more condensed look. Can be found here: Goudita Sans SF
