As long as you can find a way to use your reader that you're happy with then it probably doesn't matter. Calibre works well

I only really have the Adobe Digital Editions to access DRM'd epub books. When I bought those I downloaded a link to the book, and had to have ADE to access the book with the link. After doing that I put all the books in my calibre library.

Also I don't think that the Adobe Digital Editions can be used for everything - I couldn't get it to recognise lrf files, although I'm sure someone will soon let you know if I'm wrong about that!

Sorry! Didn't mean to confuse you.

DRM is digital rights management - used to limit usage of digital content. It's on some ebooks that you buy eg from the sony store, and it's intended to stop you passing a book you buy on to someone else. I bought epub books from Waterstones in the UK, and these have DRM so I needed Digital Editions to access them. I haven't needed Digital editions for anything else.

Hope that all made sense, but if there's anything else that's not clear then just say. It doesn't take long before you start using all this jargon like you've been speaking it all your life

I'm a little confused about the process.

Suppose I buy an DRM'd book from Books on Board.

I download it, choosing the Secure Adobe format?

Then what? I open it with Digital Editions? do I have to do anything to it? When I import it to Calibre, is it like importing any other file to Calibre?

Can some kind person please describe the process step by step for me?

Help!

Thanks

When I first download a secure epub from Waterstones I open it with Digital Editions first. Then I import it to Calibre in the same way as any other file. Although it sounds a little bit complicated it was really easy.

I haven't used Books on Board so I don't know if it works in the same way - I'm not sure if Secure Adobe format is pdf or epub, so I don't know if you need to open it with Digital Editions first, sorry. I'm sure someone who has used BoB or another site will be able to give you more information.

DRM it is an infection but you are going to learn it the hard way. No amount of explanation can help here.

There is the wiki, but otherwise you're welcome to keep asking questions. People answered my questions when I first got my reader so I'm happy to do the same.

If you're wondering about something, lots of other people will be as well!

The other think you can try is searching the forums, as that might help you find out if other people have asked the same questions.

I think wiki will become my friend. I am very confused about calibre even after going over to the forum. I don't plan on doing anything fancy with the reader, just read books, which I do not want to have to reformat.

That's what I do - calibre is fairly straight forward, you can import all your books into your calibre library, send them to your reader, remove them from your reader and give them tags so you can sort them. That's pretty much all I do and I worked that out without too much effort.

Just make sure you get books in epub or lrf (sony format) wherever possible as they don't need any converting. If you're using a 505 you can ask a question in the 505 forum and people help as much as they can

I order from BooksonBoard all the time. If your order Secure Adobe, it will either be pdf or epub. Either one will work with Adobe Digital Editions. Once it's downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions (in a matter of seconds), and you plug your reader in, you just drag and drop onto your reader (alot like the Sony library if you're familiar with that). You do not need Calibre or anything else.

I will say that the formatting on SOME of the pdfs comes out a little funky...with wierd line breaks, etc. But a couple of the books I got from them in pdf format, were perfect. I would choose epub over pdf though.
