I agree that Best Buy uses some unethical business practices. This just doesnt happen to be one of them.

I just got caught up on the tread and seems like everyone was just doing their job this time around. Darn, my two least favorite companies (I do like the iPad and the Touch though) in bed together could have made for a really funny classic two battling evil empire and the misadventures of their minions type scenario. Some days it seems like I never get to have any fun!
Well, back to trying to decide on a color tablet device. And even with this fiasco the iPad 1 is still in the mix given the price of the refurbs on the Apple site. but I worry my credit card would reject any charges from the Apple Store. On-principle if not on-purpose. |

An unconfirmed rumor says that Apple is retaliating by not giving BB any more iPads to sell SINCE BB isn't actually selling them. It's a rumor, unsubstantiated -- but EVEN SO -- if it WERE true, it would be Apple doing the RIGHT THING by it's customers. You have folks walking into a store to buy an iPad, the store HAS iPads, but doesn't want to sell them just yet. How is THAT a good thing for the customer, and how would Apple be the bad guy for not supporting this practice? Lee |

If Apple is the one controlling the number sold per day as stated in the post I was responding to then that is how. And fits the mold.

It has been widely reported that Apple has had production issues due to the Japan 'quakes. Even if you discount what Apple has to say about the issue, you could easily figure out the same info on your own. There have been numerous studies and teardown reports of the iPad 2, with information on what parts are manufactured by who. Going off that, you can then find which companies are currently not producing at full capacity, or at all, due to the quakes.

And Apple too did have a few components produced in Japan but they can be sourced from other makers in Japan or outside Japan. I am sure Apple and every other brand with important products scheduled for release this year are doing. I did not re-read the iSupply article but as I recall they, or maybe it was another source, indicated that there was a pretty large supply of components which had been pre-produced to allow for several months of full production before sourcing became an issue. |

I suspect on thing might be true, we won't see the iPad 3 this year. It might simply be impossible to fill the demand for iPad 2 as well as other devices and release yet another new device. Apple might have to choose which is a higher priority. Of course this assumes there was actually going to be an iPad 3 or whatever new Apple device later this year.
