The jetBook is the greatest! I just downloaded the upgrades (from 0.33g -> 0.34b -> 0.35m) and followed the upgrade instructions from this forum and the Ectaco website... and the upgrades went perfectly and painlessly. I have owned very few devices that I can say that about.
Everything seems to be working fine and has speeded up the device in general. I'll test out ADE and various file types tomorrow. Thanks to all who posted advice and information on the upgrades! I would probably have been too cautious to try the upgrade if I hadn't read about it here first. Well, I tried out ADE and other file types and I think that the font/formatting is MUCH improved. The device (opening files) is much faster. - In any case I am pleased that I upgraded. Last edited by rgeorg; 08-19-2010 at 04:28 PM. Reason: Update |

Some Problems and Solutions in Updating
After spending quite a few hours, I successfully update my Jetbook from v0.33c to v0.34b and finally to 0.35m. Here are a couple of things I learned:
1. When a Jetbook is connected to a Mac, two devices called "NO NAME" show up but only one is the SD card having more memory. Don´t change the names of these devices to distinguish them. Put update files ONLY on the SD card (it shows more memory) after removing all files from both devices. 2. The download for v0.34b could be opened on a Mac. The download for v0.35m can only be opened on a PC (not mentioned on the website). When I connected the Jetbook to my PC, the wrong device opened (not the SD card). I had to transfer the three update files to my Mac, put them on the SD card and disconnect. It took five tries pressing power+right arrow to get the update screen. Tonight I will try to put some library ebooks on the device. If it works, all the hassle will be worth it. |

If my memory serves me well I believe that FW 35? added the ability to backout and install a prior FW. The only issue is that FW 35a is the lowest FW you can backout to at this time. Prior to this you could only go forward with FW updates.
I did the FW 35a custom and then followed by doing the FW 35a regular then the FW 35a Custom again then on to 35M - My originating FW from purchase was FW 34. I have had no need to go back. I am totally satisfied with 35M. John John |
