Yep definitely (at least compared to the iPad). I have the iPad 2, iPad 3, Nook Color and Nexus 7. Both iPads are quite heavy and particularly unwieldy for single-handed operation. The Nook Color (448g) is a bit better but is still too heavy for comfort. However, the Nexus 7 (340g) is pretty comfortable to hold even for marathon reading sessions. The extra 100g shaved from the weight really made a big difference for me.

Amazon.com limited the kindle fire to maximize there profits in after sales department with limits and making customers depend on there CLOUD storage which im sure you know costs money over a certain storage limit. Apps i use for reading- 1. books i bought off the Amazon.com website i use - amazon kindle App 2.Side loaded (USB) MOBI and some other format books i use - FBREADER 3. Aldiko Book Reader for reading EPUB ebooks You will be able to buy from any where including the apps that have there own online book store like Aldiko Book Reader. There seems to be less info on the books sold on the Aldiko book store than what you would find on amazon.com but at least you CAN a choose as well as the many other online book stores you will be able to get the best price that you want. afv011- i tried your instructions on a taking a screen shot but it does not work Last edited by darksaber35; 07-19-2012 at 06:14 PM. |

I too prefer Aldiko Book Reader for epub on my wife's Xoom. I got the Kindle Fire because the Xoom is a bit large/heavy for long reading sessions (at least for me) but am disappointed by the inbaility to install Aldiko. I'll let my wife have full use of her Xoom back and get the Nexus 7. |

Glad i could help,if you want to know anything else then just ask.
Unlike some people im not a brand slave and only give credit to products that perform which the NEXUS 7 easily does. Thumbs up to Asus for creating tablet that works as well as it looks. I have no complaints about this tablet and the only problem i had was when it arrived the landscape mode was locked in the options screen which u turn off If you want a tablet that's GREAT value for money as well as performance then this is for you and at £200 -$250 you just cant go wrong.UNTIL somebody brings out another tablet then the NEXUS 7 will remain the king of the $250 bracket tablets. The Nexus 7 makes me think of PPP = PRICE ,PERFORMANCE ,PLEASURE In my FIRST hand experience it's great at gaming, watching movies ,surfing the web with its slick 4.1 belly baby running Apps ,book reading and im sure anything else that i have not thought to test on it. Its been as solid as a rock and has been a good experience using it unlike some portable devices i have used in the past which where frustrating This is a tablet that does it's job very very well and i only wish my own government could work as well as this There are some people who are acting like a broken record about the Nexus not having a memory card reader because basically that's all they can complain about. I myself do not have the power to heal the blind so i will not be talking on that matter again and will gladly leave them to flog a DEAD HORSE If some one needs more storage on there nexus 7 then they can always buy a WIFI potable storage device like the Kingston 32GB Wi-Drive or others on the market. As soon as Nexus is released my own voice will be drowned out by the multitude of people blowing there horns about how good the nexus is so you wont have to listen to me any more I was asked to give my opinion after i received the tablet and that's just what i did ,and if anyone one feels upset that the nexus out performs there older tablet then im sorry but there always comes a time when a device becomes eclipsed by a new one. Asus for producing a high performance tablet WITHOUT a high price tag Last edited by darksaber35; 07-23-2012 at 03:02 PM. |

As the general release of the NEXUS 7 is here, i thought i would share My TOP 9 App's i have been using on my prematurely delivered Nexus 7 so your experience will be as sweet as mine.
Im sure there are plenty of people who already know some or all of these Apps but i thought i would post them for those who have not stumbled onto these little gems before and thanks to the members pointed me in the rite direction for 2 of these Apps. 1 Ultimate rotation control -free version If you don't like the home screen locked into portrait (see PHOTO 1) mode then there is a very simple answer to that and it does not involve changing the stock user interface.just download this App and UN-TICK in this Apps option setting -Enable per App settings. Also make sure in CURRENT ROTATION option sub folder FORCED AUTO is selected. Some guy was making a big song and dance about the main menu not rotating and it seems he's not as smart as he thinks he is ,as this App does the job far quicker and simpler than Apex launcher I have been using this App on mobile phones and just tried it and it works great. You will be able to rotate to your hearts content ANY screen with this baby. (SEE PHOTO 2 & 3) How to make your Nexus 7 not suck http://www.zdnet.com/how-to-make-you...1220/#comments If you want to use a none stock customized menu then you can use Apex launcher as cry baby mentioned in his post although it will take much longer to figure out. 2.ASTRO FILE MANAGER ( see photo 4) Now this is a great App for navigating through your folders and files ,deleting files ,backing up Applications ,installing Apps & games that you side loaded(USB) and much more. 3. Dice media player Kumabjorn A great multi format media player that plays almost every type of movie file i have thrown at it as well as music (only MKV has not worked). It's much better than the stock GOOGLE PLAY -although google play can be used to buy films so it still has some use.I have tried 5 other media players and they all failed to play AVI video format i tested but DICE came through with the goods. 4. Amazon kindle App + FBREADER +Aldiko ebook reader Apps These 3 ebook readers will provide you with total coverage of all ebook formats unlike the stock reader that comes with the Nexus. 5. PowerAmp Is undoubtedly my favourite music player app for Android so far. Nice and simple music player app that just works. The is Equalizer available with widest range of pre-sets possible 6. K9-MAIL (SEE PHOTO 5 & 6) In my opinion K9 is a superior email app for Android and is capable of handling virtually all of your email needs. There is support for IMAP, POP3, Webdav setups. A very nice app to have for your COM needs. It may not look pretty but ti does the job very well. 7 IMO.IM A Great multi format messaging App that you can use for instant messaging to your friends on - Facebook messenger,Google talk ,skype, windows live messenger yahoo messenger, jabber Myspace. The Nexus 7 will no doubt be an upgrade over your Fire, but the Fire does allow 3rd party apps including the Google Play Store. You just have to find the setting (I want to say it's under Settings>Applications>Development). I used it to install Play and some other apps on my mom's Fire.

How to access play.google.com?
Quote:
In addition the built in web browser appears to block play.google.com. At least on my fire it doesn't load. Please help all of the fire owners and explain how to use play.google.com on the Fire. Last edited by keeska; 07-20-2012 at 08:43 PM. Reason: Fix typo |
