You can find some epub2 ebooks with the same structure and they are also not happy campers when splitting omnibuses.
From either a downloaded ePub or using KindleUnpack to generate the epubs to avoid the calibre artifacts, Vellum created ebooks are not a pretty sight. I run into quite a few from my spouse's ebooks. After the first few, I ended up with a set of saved searches in Sigil to clean them up which then allows splitting omnibuses with a lot fewer issues. |

Eh, if only strongly wishing for something to go away worked...

Does this plugin split large files within an epub into smaller ones if that's what I want, but within the epub, not into separate new epub files? I have an epub that has a couple files that are bigger than 400k that I'd like to get down to more files of smaller sizes. I've done this manually before, but would prefer to do it more automatically by indicating where I want the splits to be.
I think Sigil does this, fwiw. Or does Calibre (or another plugin) do this already? If that's the case, I haven't been able to find out where. |

No.
EpubSplit will split an html file if there's more than one TOC entry into the file and you only choose some of them, but that's about it. Calibre's Convert book has a 'Split files large than X' feature in the EPUB output section. You might try that with epub->epub conversion. |

That took care of it along with some minor editing afterward. Thanks!

Can't add EpubSplit to toolbar
I used this plugin years ago and really liked it. I have just installed it again but unfortunately cannot access it. When I try to add it to the toolbar using Preferences --> Toolbars & Menus, it does not appear as an option. When I try to customize it in Preferences --> Plugins --> User interface action, it gives me an "Error: Must Restart" message, but restarting does not fix the problem. I also just installed EpubMerge, and it was easy to add to the toolbar. Using EpubSplit 3.7.0 with Calibre 7.3 on Fedora 39. Thanks.

If that doesn't work, I'd try running Calibre in debug mode (under the preferences dropdown), trying again, and posting the debug log to see exactly what's failing. If you are using a Fedora packaged version of Calibre instead of the official release, it's possible there are dependencies missing or out of sync. |

I suspect it is a dependency problem, as you mentioned. I checked before posting to make sure I was running the latest version of Calibre, and 7.3.0 was the latest version in my repository. However, I now see there is a 7.12 official release, so the repository is out of date. I'll bet when I upgrade to F40 it will fix it. Thanks.

Forget the repository versions. They are notorious for being out of date or fixed by those who know better
Use the Linux command line on the Calibre download site. |

No idea if it's related, but I just got an FFF bug report that is definitely a packaged Calibre dependency problem.

New Test Version
2024-06-07 - Allow for TOC entries without text #10 - Use toc.ncx relative path, not always the same as content.opf #11 Somebody found an unusual epub that didn't split correctly because of a bad assumption about paths. Also a slightly older fix for an epub that was technically in violation of the standard. |

HELP
OK, this is a very old post, so I don't think I will get an answer. BUT...
I have downloaded the EpubSplit zip file, unzipped it, and cannot find any .exe file to actually install it. What am I doing wrong? Quote:
