I really loved reading the Iliad as an adult. The Penguin edition, trans. Fagles, is probably not the most accurate translation but it is very readable!

This thread has encourged me to re-read the Iliad. I can only say that the life expectancy of Achaens and Trojans must have been pretty low.

I'm about half way through the book, and the body count is already in the high hundreds. If this is just a few days in a 10-year war, it's a wonder anyone was left to populate the eastern Mediterranean.
