You may have to also extract other components of the url (like r4) similarly

I'm a little late to the thread, but I've had good luck with Spb Insight for full-text RSS on my Windows Mobile PDA. You either download or create "templates" that allow you to download full text directly to your device.

I wish I could find a similar piece of software for my desktop.
