No. It is not true. The latest Max version is just for two months on the market. For Max 2 there is currently not schedule for mass production. Max batches are always produced on our order and not just for fun and stock, so there is no "overstocking with old devices" problem.
This "happy" ebay buyer has already contacted me reporting issues concerning updates and upgrades with his device. Mos tlikely the hardware offered on Ebay is not compatible with our updates. Since those Ebay offers are from quite suspicious sellers (sellers are not agents of Onyx), it could be either fake goods or a stolen and smuggled part of the big batch build for Chinese educational department. Otherwise we cannot explain its price per unit, which is quite lower than import (wholesale) price of even Onyx big agents. The software, provided on our website is for international versions of Onyx devices only and will most likely be not installable on other hardware versions.

Yes, they are dealing with it and trying to figure out, where this Ebay seller could get their goods. It is also for them quite weird situation. They have produced a big batch of Boox devices for Chinese educational department. This batch has been spread to many local representatives of this department China-wide. Those devices were not allowed for international distribution and also for retail in China. Onyx is investigating now. They assume a part of goods could be perhaps stolen from one of those representatives and offered to sellers, working on marketplaces like Ebay etc.. Onyx is a factory and not retailer. They are working with agents only.

It's running yet on Max carta since 19 of may, it's more stable than 4.0.4 but no drm nor french language, only english and chinese are available.

I haven't received any on my Max Carta and none is available on Onyx-International, the last time I checked.

You probably mean Max 2? There are some projects by Onyx, which development state is currently kind of classified. We are getting just some leaked information and are not allowed to release it to public. Max 2 is in development but release date can just be assumed as end of 2017. There is also another very interesting device in development (besides of the Typewriter and Note), which probably will appear within of the next 5-7 months. But we are strictly prohibited to leak anything about it to public. It will be another very good device for educational purpose.

Can someone give us some cliff notes what the Boox Max 2 hardware specs will feature? Will the new hardware have a meaningful effect on page rendering speed (e.g. web browsing) and PDF page turning?

No real information is available. I have read about some leaked specs with a dual core so PDF rendering should be faster.

We'll see. It's exciting.
