But each update in firmware 5.13.x is nastier than the previous update. Why do you want to update?

I'm not thinking about updating, I'm on 5.13.3 and I'm happy with that. I applied OTA rename extension, so I think I'm safe. That question was just out of curiosity. In other words, I've been wondering, how much I'm screwed if OTA manages to update my Kindle

If anyone is looking for the answer, I can confirm that JailBreak survives updating to 5.13.5. I'm still on 5.13.3, but my mother's Paperwhite 3 got updated to 5.13.5 through OTA. She wanted Screensaver Hack back so badly (because native Kindle cover screensaver mode doesn't work for 90% ebooks), so I tried to revive JailBreak. What I did was https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...3&postcount=26 (thank you, NiLuJe!). I had to reboot Kindle, as running ;log r did nothing in my case. Then, I installed JB Hotfix using ;log mrpi (because updating through UYK didn't work out for me).

I updated to 5.13.3, and only because it looks prettier and cleaner. I also used this extension to block automatic updates.

I don't think your missing out that much really. They do have a book cover mode screensaver on the latest update, but we do have linkss(screensaver hack). I already tried, but it wasn't worth it.

If you do want to try it make sure you do the jbhotfix so that you can retain jailbreak and downgrade.

On fw 5.13.6 I've confirmed that the jb does not work. It shows a blank webpage no matter how long I wait. Just a heads up!

and thanks a lot for the work you are doing to 'free' the Kindle devices.
This is sort of replica of post #2:

I have a PW2 (90D4), firmware 5.12.2.1.1
Kindlebreak seems to have worked:

Loaded logging functions
Removed existing developer key
Created developer key (0)
Updated permissions for developer key
Enabled developer flag
Finished installing jailbreak, restarting...

However, the next step, installing the JB Hotfix doesn't work. The "Update your Kindle" fails with "Error 004 - The update was unsuccessful". Any idea on what is happening here? The error number is different from what I have seen in this thread. If I can do something to help, please let me know.

The Kindlebreak in this file has also the timestamp from March. The package is newer, but the content seem to be the old.

Right, that wasn't very clear, my bad. The fix is in the way the package is, well, packaged, not the code itself, so the relevant date would be the post's timestamp .
