Star Trek S1E25: The Devil In The Dark
This is the one with the Horta (a silicon-based alien that looks a bit like a lumpy pizza): This is reportedly William Shatner's favourite Trek episode. Later on, an early episode of Next Generation tried to do something similar. |

Just finished an epic binge of all 12 seasons of New Tricks - which aside from being decidedly non-PC in humor, twisty in plots, and a showcase for every veteran UK character actor you can think of -- managed the neat trick of replacing every major character/actor from the pilot without dropping in quality (IMHO) or quirkiness.

I watched the last two epis for this season of that After Paradise or Beyond Paradise or whatever. JUST when I was starting to like this season, thinking "oh, thank god, they made it less soapy and more DIP," sure enough, the soap just poured on down. I won't mention it all, b/c I don't want to spoil it for the rest of you, but damnation, they just CANNOT resist, can they? Sheesh. Less soapy soap, more murder. Cozy murder, granted, but murder nonetheless. More detecting. Hitch |

Baby Reindeer, on Netflix. It'a heavy watch, but still interesting.

Acceptable Risk was an excellent IMO 2017 Irish miniseries. Now the same people have made Hidden Assets, at least as good if not better. An Irish CAB agent (Criminal Assets Bureau) busts a small-time drug dealer and finds a fortune in diamonds and the deed to a $million flat in Antwerp, where a terrorist bombing has just occurred. Her investigation leads to her teaming up with the Antwerp inspector on that case. It's pure detective work, refreshingly free of personal drama, sex and gratuitous violence.
We watched the Spanish series I Know Who You Are, half soap opera and half mystery - not great but we made it through the 16 long episodes. Then the French The Awakening, not sure how to describe and apparently canceled before explaining anything. and Lakeside Murders, a decent series from Finland. Now starting another French series Munch which looks promising. |

Last night we finished Bodkin. Which we both enjoyed. And over the weekend we watched the first half of the third season of Bridgerton. Which is more my sister's thing than mine. I did enjoy the first two seasons, but I feel this season is more rom-com than the previous ones.
Tonight we'll probably watch the new three part dig of Time Team on YouTube. |

Finished Munch, then an old Daniel Craig show Archangel, then Arctic Circle set in Lapland, then Mayday, another small town murder where everyone has secrets and many suspects. Also finished One Foot in the Grave, a surprising finale for a sitcom.
Outer Range on Prime looks interesting - any thoughts? |

We watched The Jinx season one over the weekend. I watched it when it came out but my sister had never heard of the case. Although she says she isn't into true crime she sure does like those documentaries. Especially if they're a bit outrageous and over the top.
We'll probably start the second, just released, season tonight. I'm thinking she might like The Staircase docu series, too. |

It has been a very, very long time since a tv show has made me angry!! And I mean really yelling at the screen and mocking the show for the stupidity of the scene, storyline and characters. But Star Trek Discovery certainly has me doing that.
First let me explain WHY I am forcing myself to watch it, though watching it is a bit loose a term, more like skipping through the episode and watching a 50min episode in about 10-15 minutes. Why... because in a moment of weakness, and coerced by the sale, I purchased the first 4 seasons on bluray in a Buy 1 get 1 free sale, which coincided with a 20% discount on all Blurays sale. So they were fairly cheap, much cheaper than their usual $39.99 price. Hey, it's Star Trek, why not, I thought. So here I am with these blurays that contain one of the most frustratingly stupid shows of the decade. This is Days of Our Lives masquerading as a Star Trek show. This show is just emotional diarreah. The positives...
The negatives...
Anybody else seen this poor excuse of a Star Trek show? |

Finished a binge watch of The Brokenwood Mysteries - Cabot Cove in NZ with endless murders of towns folk - I did enjoy seeing characters from early episodes popping up again and again - either as suspects or murderers. Will definitely re-binge this series later this year.
Discovered a great British police procedural - No Offence - fast paced, extremely non-PC dialogue and humor, extremely profane dialogue. DI Deering is one of the freshest and most memorable characters - the Brits casting is outstanding. I'm loving this series. |
