Maybe a problem with lua and/or lgob packages installation or with xx?

KillerRabbit, have you access to a console on the Iliad?

Hansel, maybe you/we should split lua+lgob packages installation from the applications. I mean, providing one installer for lua&lgob instead of including them with the apps.
As lua-based programs appear, this will be needed eventually.

KillerRabbit,

I looks like you or something you installed did something 'special' to the directory /usr/local...

Do you have ssh running? If so, you can investigate this. List it with 'find /usr/local' and ls -l /usr/local. If there is nothing important in /usr/local, you might delete it (rm -r /usr/local, or rm /usr/local if it is a symbolic link) and recreate it (mkdir /usr/local) and install again. If /usr/local contains important stuff, then ...

Let us know what you discover

Edit: if anybody else experiences problems with MiniPad: please report... I'd like to make this flawless

Update: another interface for special characters

Hi All,

This new version has an easier way to enter the special characters needed in some languages. The buttons on the right side of the keyboard can be used to activate the characters you need:
  • D: German
  • E: Spanisch
  • F: French
  • I: Italian

The screen dump shows MiniPad with French characters activated.

Let me know what you think

The new version of MiniPad (0.2.2) is attached to the first post of this thread. If somebody wants support for another language: let me know...

Hansel,

Apologies for taking so long to respond again.... After considerable pain trying to remember what I've installed (in most cases, two years ago), I finally said enough and reflashed it back to original, updated to current, and then installed your package.

The results? It works... or at least it looks like the screenshots and behaves as advertised.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help.

Thumbs up Excellent work

Dear Hansel,

many thanks for your work (and others which enabled it). A very good example how to make effective use of Lua to extend applicability of the Iliad. I will think about what else might be possible based on your starting work.
Besides that, the application is already really useful.

A small bug relates to the new buttons for language specific settings. Unfortunately they have the same names (e.g. 'F') as some really needed buttons to enter the text.

I have changed the following lines in "App.lua" to fix this:
line066: "elseif k == 'D' or k == 'E' ..."
-> "elseif k == 'de' or k == 'es' ..."
line108: "F = {" -> "fr = {"
line112: "D = {" -> "de = {"
line116: "E = {" -> "es = {"
line120: "I = {" -> "it = {"
line186: "addKey(o, 2, 'D', true)" -> "addKey(o, 2, 'de', true)"
line204: "addKey(o, 2, 'E', true)" -> "addKey(o, 2, 'es', true)"
line222: "addKey(o, 2, 'F', true)" -> "addKey(o, 2, 'fr', true)"
line239: "addKey(o, 2, 'I', true)" -> "addKey(o, 2, 'it', true)"
line330: "o:setLang('F')" -> "o:setLang('fr')"

Are you still working on the project?

Many thanks again

Exclamation Changes for newer lgob

If you are upgrading to a newer lgob (as required when using the Toolbox), note that the third last line in 'App.lua' has to be changed from 'glib.Timeout.app...' to 'glib.timeout_app...' as the interface has changed.

Once again many thanks for the work of all of you

Hello,
thanks for the program, I like the idea very much. On my Iliad, I have a problem, though. I hope this line is stil open?
The feature for special characters is a very good idea, but apparently the normal characters (DEFI) don't work anymore... They only work as a way to open the special characters. Is there any way you could fix this?

Thanks a lot!!

See messag #36 above

Hello lisgielen,

the changes you need to make are listed in my post #36.
I don't think that Hansel is still reading this thread, so there
will be probably no updated package. Just use your favourite
editor to make the few changes.

Regards

Thanks, Tomm. I only have one problem: I figured out how to install this program, but I have no clue as to how to change anything in it. I did download the developer thing, but I don't know how I can use it to make changes. I hope my husband can figure it out. If not, could you give me some clues? Or show me sites with enough information so I can try this myself?
Thanks a lot anyway!

You just need a simple text editor

Hello lisgielen,

if you have figured out howto install this package, you have been able to create a "MiniPad" directory on the Iliads filesystem. Within this directory you will find a subdirectory "_files" and within the latter the file "App.lua", where the changes have to be made.
Copy the file "App.lua" from the Iliad to your PC/Laptop (or if you have installed the programm on an MMC-Card just insert that card into your card slot of the PC/Laptop). Edit it on the PC/Laptop
(using Linux use an editor like vi, emacs, nano, ...; using Windows use an editor like Notepad, Writepad, ...). Afterwards copy the file back to the Iliad. There should be no need for a developer package.

Good luck
