Other Fiction Dickens, Charles: Little Dorrit (Illustrated). v6, 16 Nov 2008

"Little Dorrit" is, along with "Bleak House" and "Our Mutual Friend", one of Dickens' last three great novels, and is one of his most important works. It is an attack on the institution of "debtors prisons" (The Marshalsea prison, which features heavily in the book, is where Dickens' own father was imprisoned for debt when Dickens was a child) and a biting satire of the over-bureaucratic institutions of government, and the injustices of the class system. The fact that most of the issues that Dickens highlights in the novel have long since passed into history does not negate the important of the work.

Fully illustrated with the original black and white illustrations by Phiz.

So incredible! I can't think of a better treat than Dickens. And you're getting closer and closer to that flawed, controversial novel "The Old Curiousity Shop."

I really can't thank you enough for these. I hope that your efforts turn more people on to Dickens.

Thanks so much - was never much a fan of Dickens (sorry!) but I watched the BBC adaptation and thought it was terrific - thanks for sharing the book!
