Why doesn't KOReader support Kindle file formats?

Although, as a Kindle owner I am able to still read DRM-free AZW3 books in the Kindle app, it would be convenient to just live in KOReader all day long and keep my stats and books in one place and not have to mess with conversion in Calibre (which is admittedly trivial).

Is there a reason that Kindle file formats (KFF) aren't supported?
  • Technical-KFF standards aren't published or otherwise changing
  • Quality-KFF cannot produce sufficient quality for display in KOReader
  • Legal-Amazon is pursuing cease/desist against software that can natively read KFF
  • Idealist-KOReader will only support non-proprietary formats
  • Amazon bias-As a reader developed for Kobo hardware, KOReader won't support proprietary formats that are Kindle specific
  • Resource limited-no developer has volunteered to support KFF
  • Workaround-File conversion in Calibre makes it unnecessary to support KFF

Thanks in advance for helping me learn more about KOReader's development history!

That in some form or other will be the number one answer to most questions.
