Turn off auto-complete in Editor Find/Replace?

Is there a way to turn off auto-complete in the editor's Find/Replace dialog? It causes (me) far more problems than it solves, and I would prefer it to be turned off.

I've read/searched the documentation, the editor settings, and tried a few web searches, and nothing turned up. The docs talk about auto-complete in the editor itself (which I also can't abide, but rarely run into, so it's not as big an issue), but not in the Find/Replace dialogs.

If not, please consider an option to turn it completely off.

There is no auto complete in Find/replace. If you dont want to select a candidate from the drop down list, dont press the Tab key.

I don't want a candidate, I don't want a drop-down list, and the Tab key is how one gets from Find to Replace. "Don't hit the tab key" is therefore not a solution.

Sadly, we dont always get what we want. Press Escape before pressing Tab.

Except that if it wasn't in the list, then Escape closes the Find/Replace window. Which forces you to constantly be looking at the window when you're searching, instead of just being to type the find text—tab—replace text and hit the appropriate button.

The way it works is an impediment for some of us. It's great for those that want to work that way, but not everyone does.

What do you look at if not the window while typing? What happens if you type something incorrectly? I'm afraid you havent made the case for adding an option for this persuasively enough.
