Why are people selling the Kindle for higher than Amazon's price on ebay?

There is one guy here, who is just insane: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DLVI%26ps%3D54

$1500 for a Kindle 2!!!

The same guy is selling the Kindle 1 and 2 for $1000:http://cgi.ebay.com/Amazon-Kindle-1-...1|293:1|294:50

Do people really fall for these crazy scams?? I don't get it. Why would you even waste money posting such a thing to ebay?

I believe people were counting on a short supply of K2's, like the K1 had. When I wanted to buy a Wii around Christmas they were around $400. Hopefully they'll be stuck with a bunch of inventory, like a scalper trying to sell Vanilla Ice tickets.

Yes, short supply. And also many will ship international which is the only way to buy a kindle outside of the US. And people do want and buy them outside of the US.

I guess people forget that the PS3's were selling for almost a grand when they came out. All those people who pre-ordered them put them on eBay right away since guess what... there were none available in the stores. Same thing with the iPhone, the Xbox30, Wii...

I have no patience for these idiot/scalpers. Like someone else mentioned, I hope they're stuck with their inventory.

it is because they want to make money, its not their mistake....the buyers should google and research the product before buying it!

The only answer to this question is...

Because people will buy them.

Cosigned. And I always wonder how many of the winners of these auctions actually just get a K2 shipped directly from Amazon?

True.. very true... but there are people out there that do not bother to do their homework. Heck you can routinely see items on ebay that sell at or above retail....

People must like that old Kindelish feel that those old kindle's have. Its just like an old book, that just feels right in your hands.

Note also that many of them are advertising the Microsoft Live promotion where you can get some off the price as the payer while the seller still gets the full over-retail amount. Several of those auctions are deceptively described such that the discount from microsoft doesn't offset the retail markup.
