NYPL - overseas members.

I was thinking of joining the NYPL for their extensive ebook library.

I emailed NYPL and they confirmed that they welcome overseas members as non-residents provided they send photocopies of ID with the application form.

Only snag is now the payment. They confirm they only take a Dollar Check made out to NYPL and drawn from an American Bank.

My bank offer an "International Bankers Draft" for a hefty fee, but not sure if this would be acceptable.

Has anyone from outside the US successfully joined - if so how did you manage the payment?

Thanks - Rufus.

Try emailing them again, specifying exactly the type of check your bank offers, and asking if they would accept it. If its international, you may be okay.

Rufus, they want it from an American bank because it will be cleared more quickly. If you can send something similar to a cashier's check, they will probably accept it. They just don't want to find out 6 months down the road that the check is no good.
