Color blind here too. It is very rare however, to see females with colorblindness. They are normally just the gene carrier. With that said, one town near me is twisted. They have street lamps that light in orange(I think), so at night, trying to find the red and yellow lights become an adventure! Everything blends in.
10% Americans are color blind (or so I've been told). Of that percentage, 96% are male.

ugh, i know just what you mean with the orange streetlights ! i once had a pair of sunglasses with brown tinted lenses ; they drove me crazy because they changed the colour of everything (particularly traffic lights) and it was very confusing and uncomfortable to wear them (and i'm not even colour blind). it wasn't long before i got another pair (with grey tinted lenses...).

There are *yellow* sunglasses, which I initially couldn't figure out at all. They actually seem to make everything brighter. Who wants that? But then I learned that they were for night driving. Tried them --- and they *really* help. They DO make everything a bit brighter .... which makes the pupils of the eye contract, and therefore the muscles *around* the eye can relax and stop squinting. The muscles are trying to do all the work themselves, and these yellow sunglasses let the muscles relax.

They're called "blue blockers." I remember reading why they're supposed to work, but I've forgotten the details. Something to do with the short wavelengths being harder to focus, I think. Too tired to google it right now.

That is one purpose among many for which yellow tinted glasses are sold, yes.
