How about "A Dangerous Man" by Charlie Huston, it's one of those 9 free downloads.

If the books are not available for download via MR, then they cannot be nominated.

According to Post #1:

"By club member decision ANY freely available books can be nominated. As long as it can be downloaded for free at the end of the voting period and for some time afterwards."

it was decided long before January to have the February 2009 book be one available from MR. The time to suggest a change was back when it was first brought up. I do think it's a little late for that now.

We were all discussing this earlier in the thread. We were concerned about the lack of contemporaries available on MR (with the exception of our local authors, and there is a month for that coming up). So we expanded the playing field for just this month. Although it is my hope we pick a book available on MR.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on this, especially when I think of "Flowers For Algernon," by Daniel Keyes.

NOTE: This is not available for consideration in the book club.

1) Always write 3 sentences of exposition; 2) now create some dialogue, preferably no more than 2 sentences; and 3) make certain the dialogue is either inane or humorous. Example:
“Bob, I did not know you wore yellow suspenders,” Sally remarked.
“Gee, Sally, those are not suspenders. I am wearing yellow underwear today,” Bob revealed.

The dialogue above will help produce at least 100 more pages of dialogue.

There are currently three excellent books with three nominations each.

May I suggest we stop this silly arguing and just vote?

Agreed. If we can get a third nomination for "Poker without Cards" we will have 4 good choices to pick from.

Ok folks. We have 4 books thrice nominated so far.

We have each of the following with 1 nomination.

Prague by Arthur Phillips
The Foreign Correspondent by Alan Furst
A Dangerous Man by Charlie Huston

Any other nominations? The nomination period is open for 3 more days.

I second the Foreign Correspondent, and also suggest a shorter abstract (from an Amazon Review by Marco Antonio Abarca):
Quote:
It is December 1938 and a small group of Italian exiles meet in the back room of the Cafe Europa in Paris. The editor of their underground newspaper Liberazione has just been assasinated by the Italian secret police and they need to find a new editor. They choose Carlo Weisz, a foreign correspondent for the Rueters News Agency. The novel that follows is Carlo Weisz battle to keep the anti-fascist Liberazione alive and publishing. To do this, he must enter the shadowy world of French, British and Italian spies.
