It's especially helpful for non-fiction reading if you want to look at photo groupings or future chapters. Sometimes you click a link that jumps to the end appendices. Now I won't have to manually clear the last read page anymore.

Is there anything meaningful in 5.3.7.2? If so, has any guinea pig tested that all hacks etc. work?

The trick is to reboot Kindle with power button after the update file is fully copied but before framework gets chance to analyse it (i.e. before ejecting from PC).

On Windows you will have to wait few minutes to make sure the disk cache is flushed (or to use a tool to achieve that), on Linux it is possible to unmount the filesytem without ejecting it. Last edited by dsmid; 07-24-2014 at 03:41 AM. |

@dsmid: Yup, except the hard-reboot procedure has a 'no power supply' prerequisite, which, well, isn't the case with the device plugged to a computer

.(It's been a long while since I actually checked to verify that fact, but, IIRC, that's still specified in the PW2 user guide). ---- EDIT: I was wrong, see further answers below .---- For OS X users, diskutil list & diskutil umount are your friend .
