Nexus 8 next month?

Speculation has it that the Nexus 8 will be coming next month probably meaning it will be announced next month. It is supposed to be pointed directly at the mini iPad and will be made by Asus.

They have a real chance to break out the pack here but I doubt very seriously that they will - too much risk aversion. It is supposed to come in at $350 with 32GB flash the minimum and a 64 bit Snapdragon.

Anyway, this is how I think they could take Apple on: Try a 3:2 aspect ratio with a 1620X1080(p?) resolution (243ppi). How about an 8 mp camera with flash, image stabilzation and it probably wouldn't hurt to add a micro SD card slot. Of course, all the Google stuff has to be there (GPS, compass, etc.). Bring it in at 10-11 oz, 8X5" and a 12 hour battery life and I think folks would sit up and take notice.

Regards-John

Might as well add an HDMI port and top quality front facing stereo speakers.

Do you have a link? The N8 rumour was floated a few weeks ago, but there was no mention at the time of 64-bit OS. AFAIK, only Intel has a 64-bit chipset and a 64-bit baseport of Android, Qualcomm, Samsung et al are not ready. I would expect the 64-bit announcement to take place at Google IO and the first devices with 64-bit to come out later this year, or maybe early next.

The N8 makes sense, as the 7" space is getting too crowded with phablets reaching, or exceeding, 6". But it will most likely remain a 16:10 device.

I don't see them lowering their screen resolution, how would that "break out of the pack"? Current screen resolution is 1920×1200 pixel (323ppi).

An improved camera or camera software would be nice. Personally though I don't see a micro SD card or HDMI port adding real value to the product.

With cloud storage and screen cast why bother?

Front facing speakers would be a nice improvement.
