RSS content crashes my PRS 505

hi there

First of all, I love Calibre, Sony could learn many things about good software development. It's everything the Sony software should be but isn't.

One question: On my PRS 505, many RSS feeds downloaded via Calibre cause the PRS 505 to crash and reboot. It seems to be something to do with filesize as it is the larger feeds that cause crashes.

e.g. New Yorker, Scientific American is fine, but BBC, Guardian, Discover give it problems.

This is the order
1. Download feed to Calibre and view in reader software to check.
2. Transfer to PRS 505
3. Find feed and try to open it
4. PRS 505 displays the "formatting" icon for about 5 seconds.
6. The formatting icon stops revolving, then after a few seconds, the PRS 505 restarts.

Anybody else get this?

Thanks

The LRF files made by Calibre are sometimes too complex for Reader to handle. You have two options.
1) Use EPUB instead of LRF (seems to crash less often)
2) Use eBook Library to transfer the generated LRF to the Reader. This will prepaginate (format) the file so that Reader won't have to do it.

Irritating, isn't it? The way I do it, after asking a lot of helpful people here, is to download the news items from Calibre. Highlight all the feeds and save them to a folder on your computer. Now go into you Sony Reader software and choose "Import Folder." Import the folder that you saved all your newspapers in.

After that's done, sort all your books by date that resides on your computer and then drag the new "books" to your Reader, or in my case, the SD card. It'll convert the files to the Reader format and crashes/reboots on your reader will be a thing of the past.

Have you got EPUB to work in the library? I've tried the Times and it crashes both in the Reader and in the eBook Library when I import it and try to read it in there.

Its not the file size, there are many larger feeds that are fine. It's a memory leak in the SONY renderer software. Switch to EPUB.
